The horror genre has always been something I have explored within my art practice. At the beginning of the Master’s I was influenced by Francesca Woodman and the overall aesthetic of her work. Using myself as the model, photographer, costume maker and editor; I then moved on to creating a horror character called Suzie Doll. Suzie Doll is seen using Glyndwr’s Art School as a playground, haunting the corridors when students go home. Moving on from character exploration, I began to research Agnostophobia (the fear of the unknown) and how suspense can be created through location, lighting, atmosphere and dark voids. Furthering my research in this subject, I have completed a number of short films, allowing me to analyse how important sound and technology is within the horror/thriller film industry.

Rwyf o hyd wedi archwilio'r genre arswyd o fewn fy ymarfer celf. Ar ddechrau’r Master’s cefais fy nylanwadu gan Francesca Woodman ac esthetig cyffredinol ei gwaith. Gan ddefnyddio fy hun fel y model, ffotograffydd, gwneuthurwr gwisgoedd a golygydd; symudais ymlaen i greu cymeriad arswyd o'r enw Suzie Doll. Gwelir Suzie Doll yn defnyddio Ysgol Gelf Glyndwr fel maes chwarae, gan aflonyddu'r coridorau pan fydd myfyrwyr wedi mynd adref. Gan symud ymlaen o archwilio cymeriad, dechreuais ymchwilio i Agnostophobia (ofn yr anhysbys) a sut y gellir creu cynnwrf trwy leoliad, goleuadau, awyrgylch a gwagleoedd tywyll. Gan hyrwyddo fy ymchwil yn y pwnc hwn, rwyf wedi cwblhau nifer o ffilmiau byr, gan ganiatáu imi ddadansoddi pa mor bwysig yw sain a thechnoleg yn y diwydiant ffilmiau arswyd/ffilm gyffro.
