Jane Samuel

Through our constantly changing world we continually seek to make connections whether physical or emotional. Taking inspiration from Glenn Adamson and Martin Heidegger through the writings of Barbara Bolt, my work looks at particular elements that make up the fabric of these, the journeys travelled to reach them and finally to translate them from maker to material to viewer.

Creating stoneware forms, each holding shards of porcelain and bone china, brought together using a volatile glaze which, when ground away, reveals the hidden beauty beneath; each piece is unique.

Using the coast as my inspiration for form, the movement of the sea to echo life as it ebbs and flows, shards for the exposed layers within broken shells showing us the strength and fragility in both nature and within each of us.

Gan greu ffurfiau caled, pob un yn dal darnau o borslen a tsieni esgyrn, wedi'u dwyn ynghyd gan ddefnyddio gwydredd cyfnewidiol sydd, wrth malu i ffwrdd, yn datgelu'r harddwch cudd oddi tano; mae pob darn yn unigryw.

Gan ddefnyddio'r arfordir fel fy ysbrydoliaeth ar gyfer ffurf, symudiad y môr i adleisio bywyd wrth iddo ebbio a llifo, shards ar gyfer yr haenau agored o fewn cregyn toredig gan ddangos i ni'r cryfder a'r breuder ym myd natur ac ym mhob un ohonom
